Under the guidance of our experienced whitewater rafting skippers, you can safely descend the 600-meter-long Kuusaankoski Rapids on the right kind of rafting boat, enjoying the splashes and foaming waves. After the descent, you will return to the starting point via the canal. For safety reasons, helmets and life jackets, which are mandatory equipment, will be provided by us.
The entire program lasts approximately 45–60 minutes. The duration includes changing gear before and after the descent, a safety briefing, the Kuusaankoski Rapids descent, and the return trip upstream.
Can children participate in whitewater rafting?
There is no strict minimum age, but each raft must have at least four paddlers who are ready to paddle throughout the entire descent. Although all participants wear life jackets, we recommend that everyone have basic swimming skills.
What to wear for whitewater rafting?
No special gear is required for this activity. Comfortable outdoor clothing is sufficient for the descent. We will provide participants with a rafting helmet and a life jacket. In warm weather, light clothing is recommended, as paddling can make you hot. Shorts and a t-shirt are great outfit choices for rafting. It is recommended to go barefoot, so shoes should be left onshore until your return.
In cooler weather, rubber boots are available if needed. The rapids of Kuusaankoski can sometimes splash water onto the raft, so there is always a risk of getting wet. If you want to prepare for the splashes, bring a change of clothes. Waterproof suits are also available for participants at Varjola, but in warm weather, they may be too hot to wear.
