In the middle of everyday life, quality time together can easily become too rare. Especially in separated families, building a close connection can sometimes feel difficult — but in nature, everything becomes simpler. No distractions, no screens, no pressure to perform. Just a shared journey, overcoming challenges together, small victories, and time to truly be present with each other.
This camp is designed especially for fathers and children who want to reconnect and strengthen their bond. During this three-day canoeing adventure, you will learn wilderness skills, canoeing, camping, and safe outdoor living together under the guidance of an experienced guide. At the same time, something even more valuable is created: shared memories and trust that will last long after the camp is over.
You do not need previous canoeing experience or advanced outdoor skills. The most important thing is the willingness to join the adventure. During the camp, you will discover together that surviving and thriving in nature is possible — and that spending time together can be genuinely fun and meaningful.
The goal is not to perform, but to find a shared rhythm. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new hobby, future adventures together, or even a completely new kind of relationship.
Camp Program in Brief
Sun 5 July – Arrival in Ruka
Accommodation in Hotel Arctic Zone and preparation for the adventure.
Mon 6 July – Savilampi → Runsulampi
Shared breakfast, planning camp meals, and preparing equipment. Canoeing instruction followed by approximately 10 km of paddling through the stunning landscapes of Oulanka National Park. Camping, campfire dinner, and overnight stay in nature.
Tue 7 July – Runsulampi → Nurmisaarenniemi
Breakfast by the campfire before continuing deeper into Oulanka’s famous scenery. Visit to the Oulanka Visitor Centre and views of the magnificent Kiutaköngäs rapids. In the evening: a new campsite, swimming, fishing, and quality time together.
Wed 8 July – Nurmisaarenniemi → Jäkälämutka
The final canoeing stage through the wilderness. Return transfer to Ruka and accommodation in Hotel Arctic Zone.
Thu 9 July – End of Camp
Breakfast at Restaurant Zone. Opportunity to continue the adventure with optional activities such as rafting or a fun day with the Ruka Fun Pass.
During the camp, you will learn:
basic canoeing skills
camping and outdoor cooking
safe movement in nature
teamwork and outdoor survival together
And perhaps most importantly: you will create memories that you will still return to years from now.
