Starting May 2027: This authentic experience will provide a fascinating insight into this unique and primeval landscape. It’s a journey through time, a dance with nature, and a celebration of the wild, untamed beauty of Ireland.

“Bleak and beautiful, bogs are time capsules that hold a record of history going back thousands of years. They supported Irish life for generations, provided fuel and employment, and are home to flora and fauna found nowhere else. They are part of the Irish soul”. Carsten Krieger.

Since their formation, the raised bogs of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands have grown to a thickness of twelve metres and are some 10,000 years deep. Also embedded in the peat are chapters of human history. Old Croghan Man, discovered near Croghan, County Offaly represents human sacrifice from a Celtic ritual.

As we journey through time, we will explore how the bog was formed, its myths and legends; traditional turf cutting as well as the unique biodiversity of the bog and its role in the fight against climate change.

Your guide, Margaret will lead you thorough an immersive journey into Ireland’s native woodlands and raised bogs, deep dive conversation, and meaningful connection with people and place.

Suitable for families, individuals, and small groups.
