Follow the northern sky in search of one of nature's most remarkable phenomena.
Chasing the Northern Lights is a guided evening excursion into the darkness and open landscapes of Finland's northern coast. Led by a local guide, the experience combines the search for the aurora borealis with stories, folklore and an introduction to the natural phenomenon behind the lights.
There is no fixed route. Your guide follows the weather, cloud cover and aurora forecasts and chooses the evening's viewing locations according to the conditions. The search may take you on foot through the surroundings of Old Raahe or by vehicle to darker coastal and countryside locations beneath the open northern sky.
Along the way, discover how people in Finland and across the North have interpreted the mysterious lights for generations. Hear stories and beliefs inspired by the aurora and learn what science tells us today about the forces that create this extraordinary phenomenon.
During the excursion, pause beneath the night sky with a warm drink and experience another side of the northern coast – the darkness, silence, winter air and sense of anticipation that come with waiting for something you cannot control.
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. If conditions are unsuitable for the excursion, it may be rescheduled or cancelled.
But the search is part of the experience.
The aurora is what we search for. The northern night is what we always find.
