The chalet’s name originates from Kerttua in Evijärvi and Väinöntalo, one of Finland’s most significant peasant museums.
The museum stands as a living memorial to Väinö Tuomaala’s life’s work and love for his home region. From childhood, Väinö collected traditional farm objects from his family home. In the 1950s he began preserving disappearing rural artifacts and even saved entire buildings from demolition.
At Väinöntalo you can sense the founder’s passion for safeguarding history for future generations. In this charming setting, 20,000 objects and 19 buildings tell the story of rural life in times past.
