The chalet is named after Höykkylä in Alajärvi. Nearby stands Pyhävuori, known as the Koli of Ostrobothnia, the region’s most famous viewpoint located on the rim of the meteorite crater.
The site is rich in folklore and legend. Remains of the hermit Jaakko Reipakka’s cabin, rock paintings, a sacrificial stone and caves tied to troll stories add a mythical atmosphere to this popular hiking destination. The area offers diverse trails through dramatic rocky and stream landscapes, and along the crater rim you can hike all the way to Lakeaharju in Vimpeli.
