The chalet’s name was inspired by the Tupsula area of Lappajärvi. According to local lore, the name may be linked to the strong textile and handicraft tradition of the region.
Whether fact or legend, the tradition continues to thrive. Carpets made in Lappajärvi are exported worldwide. Lappajärven Värjäämö has grown into Finland’s largest yarn dye house and its factory store is a treasure trove for craft enthusiasts. The town is also home to Verho- ja Mattotalo, known for interior textiles and unique fabrics featuring local themes.
